Faked Volumetric Light - an experiment. I wanted to have light streaming through the panes of a stained glass window, but volumetric effects aren't always possible. So I literally modeled rays of light from an image. Using Image Trace in Illustrator, I exported the panes as curve objects in .svg format. In Blender, I converted them to mesh, and mapped the image onto them. Then I angled and extruded them onto the ground plane, and deleted the shapes leaving just the shafts of color. An image plane makes up the "window" and another image plan makes up the projection on the floor. Carefully tweaked emission and opacity maps, plus a tad of bloom do the rest.
